The last few weeks has been hell. Here's hoping things will stabilize soon. In the meantime, while I get back to work on commissions and other things, here's a note on the coming month.


So. November is the month of winter depression but (humouredly enough) also creativity. It's the month of NaNoWriMo and it's plenty offshoots, such as NaNoMango. With how my life has been during the last few years it doesn't suit me very well to participate in either. But I do love the idea of "a little work fr fun every day for a whole month" projects.

Last year I jumped an own variant of the bandwagon by doing something simple to be able to join in on the November creativity. It was surprisingly fun.

A-sketch-a-day or Sketch-a-vember, the way I see it anyway, is for us who for whatever reason can't squeeze in the bigger challenges right now (be we lazy, stressed, or self-doubters). Or for us who needs reminding that we love drawing and that the love is unconditional -we don't always have to be fighting to be the best. It's okay to play (and hey that's when we learn a lot too!).

There's no pressure to produce any actual impressive content. Be it figure studies, a funny doodle or fan art, a sad stick figure saying "today I had no time at all to sit down and draw and this made me sad", or an elaborate colour practice piece that took five hours. It doesn't matter. The whole point is to draw a little every day and enjoy it. Like NaNoWriMo it's not the actual quality of the work that matters but that each day you sit down, focus for as much as you've set out to do, and at the end of the month you've fulfilled your run.


Yes. This was a long-winded way of saying I plan to do it again this year (over at my journal) and it'd be great fun if others joined me. I doubt I will produce anything too clever but it's all in good fun. Not to mention that November usually need all the help it can get to be passable as an interesting month.
